It doesn’t take a biblical scholar to know that we are in the last days. A cursory look around at our world today shows that the world that we are living now is rapidly beginning to parallel that of the days of Noah. It is of such days that Jesus spoke about when He said, “and because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold” [Matthew 24:12, KJV].
The hearts of men and hence their love have waxed cold just like a candle waxes when the flame is put off, because they have removed the source of light from their heart; God. God is the author and embodiment of love so where God is removed, love is removed. The primary function of the sun is to provide light but when it shines it emits heat as a by product due to the amount of energy being produced. That is what happens when a candle flame is turned on and this is what happens when the love and knowledge of God abounds in the hearts of men.
The only light powerful enough to melt the hearts of men is the love of God because this type of love comes with a power so strong that no type of waxed heart or even stony heart can stand in its presence. Light comes to men in two ways; through our lives and by the preaching of the gospel. Jesus says, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a peck measure, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven” [Matthew 5:14-16, AMP]. When you let Jesus shine through you and in you by walking in love in all that you do [1 Cor. 13:4-8], you emit a light that comes with such heat which is comparable to “heaping burning coals of fire on their heads” [Romans 12:20]. When you live that excellent and victorious life that the death and resurrection of Christ paid for, your light will shine so bright that men will glorify God the Father and as they do, a heavenly heat will permeate their spirit and melt their waxed hearts.
Then there is the ultimate form of light which Apostle Paul describes as “the light of glorious gospel of Christ” [Ephesians 4:4, KJV]. The light of the gospel of Christ is the POWER of God unto Salvation for men, and this power which is no ordinary power but dunamis power comes from the Holy Ghost. When the gospel is preached with such power and with gusto and not of the excellency of speech, it sharpness pierces and pricks the hearts of men to allow the love of God which knows no bounds, to flood their hearts. It is the heat of God’s love which melts even the most hardened criminal and gives him a heart of a trusting child.
So today, preach the gospel of Christ through your life and verbally everywhere you go and melt the waxed and stony hearts of men so they will no longer be “blinded by the god of this world …lest the light of the gospel of Christ should shine on them” [Ephesians 4:4, KJV].
