“There is a way which seems right to a man and appears straight before him, But its end is the way of death” [Proverbs 16:25, AMP].
As you mature in your walk with the Lord, choices you have to make are no longer about what is right or wrong because those become very apparent. Choices become choosing the perfect will of God from His good and acceptable will [Romans 12:2], choosing between the expedient and the permissible way [1 Corinthians 10:23]. The ability to make the right choices cannot be determined by the physical senses but by spiritual discernment, which comes through an intimate relationship with the Lord. As new creations, we know that Christ has been made unto us wisdom [1 Corinthians 1:30], yet it is up to us to walk in that wisdom which comes through His Word.
The world has made many things which the Lord considers unacceptable to be acceptable. If we are not careful, it would be very easy for us to become deceived and also embrace them. Lust has become shrouded in the umbrella term of love, speaking the truth in love has been replaced by political correctness and tolerance and above all, the love for God has become usurped by the love for the mind and knowledge. This is what the wisdom of the world does when it is in operation; it only seeks to appease the desires of the flesh and emotions. The wisdom of this world, which is ruled by the devil has an appearance of goodness but is only a shroud to cover up the true root and motive of jealousy, selfish ambition and self preservation. This kind of wisdom is considered as “earthly, sensual and devilish” [James 3:15, KJV]. Those who yield themselves to such counsel only find themselves walking on a path that seems to be right, but end up discovering that it produces many destructive outcomes. This is why it is very imperative to be mindful of who speaks into your life and counsels you, because their counsel could lead you on the wrong path. Remember that this counsel can come from anywhere including your favorite tv show, facebook article, favorite music, etc. All forms of media are ways through which you could be counseled and not solely through the advice of your best friend.
Always choose the wisdom of God which may not be conventional, convenient or comfortable, but is “pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere” [James 3:17, NLT]. The Word of God is the wisdom of God and if you truly desire to walk in the wisdom of God, then you would need to grow in the Word of God. You simply cannot afford to have a carnal mind or behave carnally because that leads you on the path that leads to death. A carnal mind is always concerned about the thing of the flesh and emotions, but a spiritual mind is first concerned about pleasing the Lord and doing His Word. The carnal mind can never please God because it takes faith to please God [Hebrews 11:6].
As the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, there is only one path you have been predestined to walk on, and that is the path of life. However, it is up to you to also choose to walk on that path by the constant renewal of your mind, so you would be able to discern between the spiritual and that which is carnal. So that you would be able to judge between the broad road that leads to death and the narrow road that leads to life. So that you would be able to judge spiritually which of the 3 job offers to accept ,knowing which is the perfect will of God for your life. So that even though you know that the person you get along so wonderfully well with now and has qualities you desire for in a spouse, is not the one you ought to marry. So that you would know that although the Lord has spoken concerning that business, the time is not now for it to be birthed but for yet an appointed time.
In the days we currently live in, if you want to live the authentic Christian life, you will not be able to coast through. You would have to rise up and out of any comfort zone you find yourself in and take a stand for Christ. Taking a stand for Christ in all that you do and choosing the Word of God above how your feel or don’t feel, and what you want and don’t want. That is the wisdom of God which would keep you on that path of life, away from that road which seems straight, but leads to death.
