Don’t abort your dreams

“Until the time came to fulfill his dreams, the Lord tested Joseph’s character” [Psalms 105:19, NLT].

We all have dreams; things that we want to accomplish in our lives, great feats we want to wrought in this life. The great thing is that these dreams have not been birthed into our spirits by accident, but for the end goal of glorifying God. After all “it is God who works in us both to will and to do of his pleasure” [Philippians 2:13].

When a dream is birthed into your spirit, it can be likened to the conception that happens when a sperm fuses with an ovary in the woman’s womb. When the  Spirit of God releases a word (the seed) into our spirit and it mixes with our faith (the ovary), a dream/vision is conceived. Yet just like with a pregnancy, this conceived dream has to go through a gestation period where it will have to be fed the right nutrients and provided a safe environment to grow in and to be fully equipped for the world it will be brought forth in. Therefore, it is crucial what things you feed your dream with during the gestation period. That dream is not merely a dream but a great blessing that would benefit nations and generations. Therefore ensure you are regularly taking your pre-natal vitamins of the Word, worship, praise, prayer, seed sowing, speaking faith filled words and cut out any meals of doubt, negative words and fear from your diet. Also, let nothing or no one rob you or cause you to miscarry that dream; the salvation and future of many is in that dream.

Understand that the gestation period for everyone’s dream is different, because God works according to purpose and not man’s timing. This period is not only for the dream to be fully equipped to make an impact, but for you to also be fully equipped with the challenges and promotion that comes with the birth of the dream. So don’t look at someone’s baby and determine that you should also give birth at that same time, because they have given birth within a short time. Remember, Joseph had 2 dreams that He would rule over his brothers and indeed because it was God’s purpose for Him to bring salvation not only to His brethren, but to the Egyptians as well. Yet it took 20 years for the birthing of that dream because, “until the time came to fulfill his dreams, the Lord tested Joseph’s character” [Psalm 105:19].

Yes, God has given us great talents that will help us bring forth our dreams, but it is our character that will sustain us when we get there. During this gestation period, God will prune the things that will bring problems eventually, and this pruning process will also help the good traits you possess, grow. So don’t give up during the gestation period; it may seem like a long time but God is equipping, strengthening and pruning you for greater things ahead. No matter how long it may seem, don’t rush to prematurely give birth; you will be doing your dream a great disservice. Let it mature fully before you give birth to it.

There are some who don’t like the circumstances under which their dreams were conceived or feel that they don’t have the ability to take care of such a dream. Please don’t ABORT that dream because of how you feel. Remember we don’t live by feelings but by faith and really it is not about your ability, but about God’s ability. You can do ALL things through Christ which strengthens you. Remember “it is not by might, nor by power but by my Spirit, says the Lord of Hosts” [Zechariah 4:6]. Aborting that dream means robbing others of their opportunities to be blessed and saved. You are carrying future blessings and salvation in your womb. Please handle it with care because lives depend on it.

Finally, remember this, “Before the birth pains even begin, Jerusalem gives birth to a son. Who has ever seen anything as strange as this? Who ever heard of such a thing?Has a nation ever been born in a single day? Has a country ever come forth in a mere moment? But by the time Jerusalem’s birth pains begin, her children will be born. Would I ever bring this nation to the point of birth and then not deliver it?” asks the Lord. “No! I would never keep this nation from being born,”says your God” [Isaiah 66:7-9].

God is truly faithful. Though the vision may tarry, yet it shall come to pass, so please don’t ABORT that dream!
