HE IS More Than Enough!

“… (God) set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end” [Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV].

Think about this… Man lives his day-to-day life in search of something, and like the writer of Ecclesiastes puts it, we never quite get it figured out fully. In pursuit of identity, love, purpose, fulfillment etc. we knock on some wrong doors (at times in some weird places).¬† We look to things – cars, shoes, sex, likes and comments, drugs, acceptance, power… We look to people – our family, friends, the opposite sex… We track them down in our schools, workplace, church, or social networks. And we seek time, attention, money, love, etc as a means of¬†solace and gratification.

However, we come up short Everytime!… No matter how much (or little) we seek: only 5 minutes of talk time to recap your day; a weekend to rebuild a broken relationship. How about one more hit to help forget the pain? Or agreeing to share the bed one last time in efforts to keep that relationship… IT IS NEVER ENOUGH. There is still a void to be filled. There is still one more thing you desire. There is still one More… It is Never enough!

But there is Hope. Consider this: before your conception and birth, a solution was presented. God, in a show of love:

1. Gave His only begotten Son, Jesus, to come die/pay for your sins, conquer sin and death, and rise again that you may have eternal life (John 3:16, Romans 8:2, 1 John 5:12)

2. Created you in His image and likeness so that you may have dominion over the earth (Genesis 1:26-28)

3. Breathed life into you, filling you with a purpose for the world (Genesis 2:7, Isaiah 55:11)

4. Left His Holy Spirit to teach, guide, protect, comfort, and sustain you in ALL THINGS (John 14:16, 26)

Now we can see that the eternity God placed in our hearts is truly a “divinely implanted sense of a purpose working through the ages which nothing under the sun but God alone can satisfy” [Ecclesiastes 3:11 AMPC]. No person or thing can satisfy, only God. Therefore keeping to the admonishes of Jesus, we need only to seek God – His kingdom and His righteousness. We need not “worry about missing out. (We’ll) find all (our) everyday human concerns will be met” [Matthew 6:33 MSG].

In Christ, we not only get everything we truly need (and some of what we want, per His wisdom and love), BUT we also get HIM. We get the things AND the intimacy! We get the full, deluxe package!!!.. Even in the best of marriages, this can Not be achieved because “who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them?.. (But) what we have received is..the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us” [1 Corinthians 2:11-12 NIV]. Even if your spouse were to take a bullet for you, s/he could NEVER leave their spirit to stay with you… But in Christ, we can have “all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of (God the Father and Son through intimacy with God the Holy Spirit)” [2 Peter 1:3].

Therefore today, know that All we ever needed or wanted is found in fellowship with the Godhead. It – that relationship, job, desire, addiction – wasn’t, isn’t, and won’t ever be enough… But God is. The God who chose the people of Israel to be His own. The God who got them out of captivity after plaguing their Egyptian oppressors. The same God who led the Israelites through the deserts – parting seas, raining down bread and meat, bringing down walls, winning battles, and preserving their lives. That same God who brought them to the promised land of Canaan, a land filled with milk and honey. The great I AM. HE IS More than Enough. Shalom.
